My entire life I have held an intense fascination with water and a great deal of respect for the oceans and its powerful embodiment.
There is a feeling you get when you are near a body of water. The mediative ebb and flow of the waves lapping the shore. Its perpetual spontaneity is completely hypnotic. Something about the thunderous roar taps into a vibration deep inside your soul. It is vast, unforgiving and one can’t help but be reminded of how tiny we are, spinning around the sun on this incredible planet we call home.
My work is intended to make people stop and sit in the mesmerizing expanse of the sea, and incite a sense of wonderment and admiration for the environment and its delicate balance. I want my work to transport the viewer to the shore. To smell the salty air, be able to hear the sound of the crashing waves and imagine the feel of the misty spray on their skin.
Canada has the world’s longest coastline with the two largest oceans bordering its coasts. Not only do these oceans provide us with a source of food, they help regulate our climate and provide more than half the oxygen that sustains life on this planet. Through these highly representational works I aim for the observer to appreciate the beauty of nature and feel inspired to preserve our ecosystems through purposeful conservation.
Erin Burge is an Artist from Kelowna, Canada. She began her career painting and drawing, focusing on realism and fine detail. After completing a formal education in Fine Art she relocated to Tofino, on B.C’s wild west coast, which strengthened her love for nature and inspired her to begin painting the local waters and that which surrounded her. There she fell in love with surfing and hiking and enjoys using the scenery she comes across as inspiration for her work. Now once again calling the Okanagan home, she spends much of her time exploring British Columbia’s rugged outdoors and wishes to captivate and celebrate the beauty of the natural world through her art.
